How Laser Therapy Works

 

Low Level Laser Therapy brings the ancient Asian healing art of Acupuncture into the twenty first century. Acupuncture is known to reduce tension, increase circulation, and enable the body to relax more deeply. At The Te Center, our laser produces a painless point of light used instead of acupuncture needles to stimulate specific points.  No needles, no pain.

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is considered a non-medical procedure. Treatment with low-level laser can help to promote the release of endorphins in the body. Endorphins are natural chemicals in your body that signal your system to decrease stress and increase energy.

 

The Te Center uses a low powered laser to treat nicotine addiction, over-eating and stress. Energy points related to addiction, metabolism and stress are identified and treated with an infrared laser. The points are located on the face, the ears, and the arms. The entire procedure is external, non-invasive, and non‑thermal. Low Level Laser Therapy is painless, relaxing and drug free.  The treatment takes about 30 minutes.

During the Low Level Laser treatment the client may feel some sensation from the laser.  They may feel warmth, a pulsation, or even a tingling sensation. Some clients feel a calming sensation from the laser.  Most clients report a sense of relaxation after the treatment.

The Low Level Laser treatment acts as a tool to assist the client through the initial physical withdrawals from nicotine. The first 72 hours after quitting are considered the crucial detoxification period. Two treatments are highly recommended during this period.  Additional treatments are offered for subsequent stressors that may arise during the following weeks. The laser treatment produces an endorphin release (similar to that experienced when smoking a cigarette) which lasts for a period following treatment.  This aids in alleviating the stress associated with giving up nicotine. Other points stimulated address detoxification, appetite, and general body functions associated with withdrawal.

A Laser is a concentrated beam of light of a specific color. That beam can then be spread across an area or focused into just a small dot. The smaller the dot the more power it has.  Lasers are also rated in watts. Anything below one watt is considered a cold laser (not strong enough to burn). 

Cold Lasers (the ones that scan your groceries) are much lower in power and can be used without real risk. The power, frequency, and wavelength of the laser determine how it influences the target, in this case skin and what lies under it.  The simple version is different settings allow the laser to do different things.

Hot lasers (the ones you know from movies) are very high powered and are used to evaporate, melt, or destroy the target. We don’t use them!
